YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates two overnight camps, one in Point Pelee National Park, and one on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Employees and volunteers of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario are ambassadors for the Y both on and off the job. We rely on them to help share our mission and increase awareness of the positive impact the Y can have on the lives of people in their communities. All employees and volunteers are required to provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record and may require a Vulnerable Sector Search as a condition of their employment. Police Record checks are reviewed on an individual basis, and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirements of the position, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered gainful employment.
Position/Term: Community Resource Houses Facilitator, 4 Month Contract with possibility of extension
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $17.20 hour
Qualifications & Experience:
• Secondary education, in addition to the current training in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth, Social Services, or Recreation and Leisure are considered an asset
• Experience working in a community drop-in Centre is an asset; knowledge of sports and recreation, community programs and service clubs preferred
• Excellent problem-solving skills; interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with participants and community agencies; show respect for diversity demonstrating the ability to work effectively and productively with a diverse population
• Outgoing, inclusive and welcoming in nature; resourceful, flexible, motivated and energetic
• Valid class “G” driver’s license and access to a vehicle for work activities, is preferred.
• WHMIS; Basic health and safety worker awareness certification; child abuse prevention certification (will be provided)
• Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Position Screen is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers
• Current First Aid & CPR Level C
• It is a YMCA of Southwestern Ontario requirement that all employees and volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions will be granted upon receipt of acceptable proof of a permissible Human Rights Code ground
Compensation/Benefits:
• Pay will commensurate with experience
• A YMCA personal membership at our health and fitness branches
• A discount on our Childcare and Camp programs
• Vacation entitlement in accordance with the employment standards regulations
• May be entitled to up to 12 paid personal days – applicable with position and contract length
• Participation in Group Benefits Plan and Pension Plan – applicable with position and contract length
Responsibilities:
• Adhere to YMCA of Southwestern Ontario policy and procedures
• Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in your daily work
• Create and maintain positive, open working relationships with youth and families to create a program environment conducive to the areas of physical, social and emotional development of participants
• Demonstrates Y values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Inclusiveness on a daily basis
• Be accessible to parents to answer questions and respond to concerns; recognize new participants and ensure they feel welcome
• Be sensitive to individual differences and needs and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs
• Provide a warm, safe and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean and all activities are available to children during the program, and thoughtful invitations to play are evident
• Utilize age-appropriate child coaching and mentoring techniques in all interactions with the children
• Oversee all snack time activities; be aware of and incorporate all known food allergies into menu plans
• Coach and provide leadership to support staff and volunteers
• Maintain accurate records, files and forms as required by the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario
• Model appropriate behaviours toward staff, volunteers and members in line with the YMCA Mission and Vision statement; act proactively to develop positive relationships with members, participants, peers and volunteers
• Continuous practice of clean culture, actively maintain personal workspace and equipment ensuring a neat, clean, safe environment and equipment always, complete incident report forms when necessary
• Always present a professional appearance, adhering to the YMCA dress code policy, including a visible name tag and an engaging smile
• Ensure compliance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, including Health and Safety, Child Protection and Risk Management
• Strive to stay informed and up to date on all YMCA programs and services
• Solve participant concerns in a customer-oriented manner
• Communicate with Supervisor problems or concerns in a timely manner
• Maintain the strict confidentiality and discretion on all private matters pertaining to members, students, staff and volunteers acquired through regular course of employment
• Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and applicable industry standards for Occupational Health & Safety, Human Rights Act, Accessibility Ontario Disability Act, and Employment Standards Act
• Actively support the Association’s Philanthropic efforts and provide feedback where necessary
• Maintain qualifications as required by this position; continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and other staff development
• Participate in all staff meetings and training
