The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is currently accepting applications for one (1) full-time permanent "Development Services Coordinator."


Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Director of Building and Planning, the Development Services Coordinator provides the first point of contact to the public, agencies and development community in regards to building and planning services and provides confidential administrative support to building and planning staff in processing all building, and planning act applications. In addition, the position is responsible to assist and or fill the role when designated to do so of Secretary-Treasurer to the Committee of Adjustment of the Municipality.

As a member of the Municipal team, each employee is responsible for serving the citizens of Strathroy-Caradoc by meeting the ratepayers’ needs and expectations, as articulated by Council, by striving to be the best in everything we do through attitude, training and creativity, and for representing the Municipality as a strong, integrated organization dedicated to quality, sustainable and viable services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist and/or fill the role of Secretary-Treasurer to the Committee of Adjustment when designated to do so.
  • Provide front-line customer service for the department, directing in-person, phone, and email inquiries.
  • Attend evening Committee of Adjustment meetings when required
  • Providing business and administrative support to the Building and Planning Department.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective positive working relationships within and outside of the organization and department; maintaining good working relationships with elected and appointed officials; representatives of local boards and members of the public and other levels of government as well the private development industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral and public relations skills, with a focus on customer service excellence by adhering to the Municipality’s Customer Service Standard policy.
  • Complete work order and zoning information letters.
  • Circulation of planning related notices, circulations of applications to internal / external agencies, manage requests to participate in public meetings.
  • Responsible for the administration of the Community Improvement Plan, including responding to inquiries, assisting completion of applications, processing applications, managing CIP Committee meetings, preparing reports to Council, including annual reports.
  • Completion of annual and semi-annual performance measure statistics related to department activities
  • Coordinate with the County to respond to street addressing requests, maintain Municipal street name list.   
  • Complete research in support of building and planning matters.
  • Responsible for fee intake and processing refund requests, deposits.
  • Ability to work successfully with a team or independently.
  • Ability to consistently maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Assist in the preparation of development agreements
  • Update and maintain all planning and building permit applications.
  • Process planning and building permit application fees, securities and deposits.
  • Filing, data base management, preparation of maps, brochures, etc.
  • Assist with graphic design, website development, social media as requested.
  • Create and update GIS / AutoCAD.
  • Commissioner for Taking Oaths.
  • Capacity to effectively manage multiple, concurrent priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Willing to attend meetings outside normal work hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • College Diploma or University Degree in a Planning or Planning related program (i.e. Urban Design, Planning, Planning Technician, Geography etc.)
  • 1 to 2 years work experience in municipal/private land use planning / building field or other similar type field
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT) would be an asset
  • Proficiency in computer software such as computer assisted design (CAD), geographical information systems (GIS), graphic design, and database software.
  • Computer literacy utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and virtual meeting platforms
  • Knowledge and understanding of Ontario’s land use planning system, and the Ontario Building Code
  • Understands and works within the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and any Municipal policies and procedures.
  • Sound judgment and professional tact to gain cooperation and compliance from the general public, contractors, and industry professionals
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of the Planning Act and planning related legislation and policies
  • Must have a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to starting employment
  • Must be legally authorized in Canada

Compensation: 

Wage: Band 4: $56,547.40- $70,688.80 (2024 rates)
Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including enrolment in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) defined benefit pension plan.
