Job Description

As the Payroll and Benefits Administrator, you will be responsible for accurately processing payroll for salaried and hourly employees, managing benefit programs, and ensuring compliance with union agreements and job allocations. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Process payroll for salaried and hourly employees by company policies, provincial and federal regulations, and union agreements.
  2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including salary adjustments, deductions, and tax information.
  3. Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
  4. Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.
  5. Assist employees with inquiries related to payroll and benefits, providing exceptional customer service and resolving issues promptly.
  6. Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure accurate job allocations, job costing, and labour distribution.
  7. Prepare and submit reports as required for union negotiations, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  8. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tax law changes, and payroll and benefits regulations.
  9. Participate in payroll and benefits process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  10. Maintain strict confidentiality of employee data and payroll information.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional designation is an asset (not required).
  • 1+ years of experience in payroll processing and benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial labour laws, wage and hour regulations, and taxation.
  • Experience working with unions and familiarity with union agreements.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in payroll calculations.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong aptitude in acquiring proficiency in new software accounting programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Salary: $60-$70K - based on experience
