Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Lead – Mechanical to oversee the mechanical engineering aspects of projects within the oil & gas and energy industries. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the mechanical engineering team, ensuring technical excellence, and driving efficient project execution.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Engineering Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor the mechanical engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
    • Develop and enforce engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  2. Project Design and Analysis:
    • Oversee the mechanical design of pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, and related equipment.
    • Perform stress analysis, thermal calculations, and material selection to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
    • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  3. Project Support and Coordination:
    • Collaborate with project managers, procurement teams, and construction teams to align engineering deliverables with project schedules and budgets.
    • Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and testing phases.
    • Address field-related mechanical engineering issues and propose timely solutions.
  4. Regulatory and Code Compliance:
    • Ensure all mechanical engineering work complies with relevant codes, standards (e.g., ASME, API, TEMA), and client requirements.
    • Stay updated on industry regulations and integrate them into engineering processes.
    • Engage with regulatory bodies (TSSA, CWB, etc.) on technical design reviews for code compliance and registration.
  5. Quality Assurance and Risk Management:
    • Conduct quality reviews of mechanical engineering deliverables to ensure accuracy and consistency.
    • Identify potential risks in mechanical design and propose mitigation strategies.
  6. Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive innovation by researching new technologies, materials, and methods to enhance mechanical engineering processes.
    • Provide recommendations for improving efficiency and reducing costs without compromising quality or safety.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of mechanical engineering experience in the oil & gas, energy, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario or eligibility to obtain it.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, PV Elite, Compress or similar tools).
  • Strong knowledge of ASME, API, and other industry codes and standards.
  • Experience with heat exchanger design, pressure vessels, lifting devices and piping systems is essential.
  • Knowledge of weld procedure development and selection is an asset.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage teams and coordinate across disciplines.
